Maggie Brooks was born in Zurich, Switzerland of a long lineage of artistic family talent. She is of Swiss Germanic ethnic origin. She is well known in her native city of Zurich.
As a child and into her teens, she played the violin in local concerts. She took up painting in Zurich after she was married to a well known businessman. At the time abstract painting was in vogue. Her husband recognized her great ability to blend colors and encouraged her into abstract painting.
Subsequently, she had exhibitions in Europe and Asia. In Manila, in the Makati Business District she had an exhibition wherein all her paintings were sold at the opening night. Gradually her talent evolved into flowers and landscapes. At her home, she maintains a beautiful garden, with flowers of all colors everywhere.
There are two separate rose gardens. Her love for flowers is traditional in her native Switzerland. Here in Costa Rica she was delighted to learn that there being no severe winters to contend with, flowers, specially roses bloom all thru the year.
With encouragement from her husband and close friends she decided to exhibit her paintings in Costa Rica. Costa Ricans have abundant artistic talents. However, each artist captures their own individual expression of how they view a given subject. It is this feeling and expression that makes an artist different from others. It is hoped that her works will be received here as well as they have been abroad. |
